This project involved designing a modular in-store visual planning system to help customers understand and configure IKEA’s PAX wardrobe range. The aim was to present complex product options in a clear and structured way, supporting customers in making confident purchasing decisions within the retail environment.
Working closely with the Visual Merchandiser and Bedrooms Manager, I defined the key information customers needed when planning a wardrobe configuration. I developed digital mockups to test hierarchy, spacing, and visual flow within the physical space, ensuring the system could be easily understood from different viewing distances in-store.
The final design introduced a step-by-step visual framework aligned with IKEA brand guidelines, using modular diagrams and vinyl typography applied to a large wall-based display. The system was designed to remain flexible so it could be updated as the product range evolved while maintaining clarity and consistency.
Following installation, the visual system improved customer engagement and supported more informed conversations with store co-workers. The Bedrooms department saw a 12% increase in sales within two weeks of installation.
